Planter’s Punch, how to make the cocktail at home

The Planter’s Punch is a rum based cocktail Dorado to which citrus juices are added, such as lime, lemon or pineapple, to give it an acid flavor and grenadine for a sweet and original touch.
Among the different juices to be added, the citrus juices may vary —because sometimes orange juice is added— however, pineapple, grenadine and angostura are always present at Planter’s Punch.
This is a fresh and tasty cocktail that in our case we have made without the orange juice, although you can add it or combine the juices to your liking. Take note of the recipe to make this caribbean punchoriginal and tasty.

Planter’s Punch ingredients for 1 person

- 3 ice cubes
-
- 45 ml golden rum
-
- 35ml lime juice
-
- 35 ml of fresh pineapple juice
-
- 20ml lemon juice
-
- 10ml grenadine
-
- 10 ml of gum syrup or 1 teaspoon of sugar

- 50 ml of mineral water (optional)

- 4 drops of Angostura

- Crushed ice or crushed ice

How to make Planter’s Punch
Pour 3 ice cubes into the shaker to chill it, shake it and discard the remaining water.

Next, we measure 45 ml of golden rum using the jigger if we have it, and add it to the shaker.

Immediately afterwards, we are adding the rest of the ingredients: 35 ml of lime juice, 35 ml of natural pineapple juice, 20 of lemon juice, 10 ml of grenadine and 10 ml of gum syrup or 1 teaspoon of sugar.

We cover the cocktail shaker and shake it energetically for about 15 seconds, so that our cocktail is mixed.

Once we have the cocktail ready, we prepare the glass in which we are going to serve it —we have used a hurricane-type glass—, filling it with crushed ice.

Next, we serve the cocktail by pouring the contents of the shaker over the glass through the strainer so that the ice used to cool the shaker remains inside.

Once served, we can add a little mineral water, up to 50 ml, if we don’t want it to be so strong and add 4 drops of Angostura, which will give it a bitter touch. Finally, we decorate the glass with 1 slice of lime, 1 piece of pineapple and 1 cherry.

We serve the cocktail immediately to enjoy very cold, yes, always in moderation.
