Mojito how to prepare the perfect cocktail. If I had to mention which are the most consumed cocktails in the world, the Cuban mojito would undoubtedly be one of them. And it is not surprising, its flavor is very pleasant as well as refreshing, which gives it a cheerful and addictive touch.
Of Cuban origin and invented at the beginning of the 20th century, its popularity gradually increased thanks to being the star drink of the establishment “La bodeguita de en medio” in Havanaone of the tourist places in the city that is practically considered the mecca of this famous drink.
The preparation of the mojito is very simple, it is about a mix of rum, lime and mint (although mint is also worth it) and it is all done in the same glass. Of course, there is an order of ingredients that more or less must be respected so that it can be prepared without problems and it turns out perfectly, since it has its technique.
There is a variant of the mojito that consists of adding a touch of Angostura at the end, a condiment widely used in cocktails that serves to give a point of bitterness that enhances the flavor. However, this is totally optional and you’ll look great without it too.
And finally, before going on to the recipe, remember that even if the mojito is very tasty, we will always try to enjoy it in moderation.

how to make a mojito
To prepare the mojito we are going to start by taking half a lime, if we use it whole, and cut it into four pieces as seen in the photo (not four wedges).
Damian SerranoNow we take a wide and tall glass of approximately 300 ml capacity and start adding the ingredients. First comes the sugar, which can be white or brown, of which we will put 2 teaspoons.
Damian SerranoWe continue with the mint, or mint, failing that. Some people like to add the stems and some people prefer only the leaves. We are left with the second, since the preparation is easier, leaving the entire stem to decorate. We put about 10 mint or mint leaves in the glass.
Damian SerranoThen it is the turn of the lime, if we use it whole we put the 4 previously cut pieces of lime inside the glass. You can also use only the lime juice, for which we will add about 25 ml.
Damian SerranoThen comes the most important part of the preparation, since we have to macerate these three ingredients. The technique is very simple because you simply have to gently crush the ingredients in the glass with a pylon, with this we get the juice out of the lime while we rub the mint leaves with the sugar to release their essential oils. Be careful, it is not about turning the grass into a paste, the leaves should be rather whole.
Damian SerranoOnce we notice an intense aroma of mint, what we will do is fill the glass with crushed ice, also called pile or cocktail, almost to the top.
Damian SerranoThe next thing we will add is the rum. Normally a white rum is used, preferably Cuban, both in dry and aged versions. Use the one you like best. The standard quantity is what is known as two measures, that is, 60 ml. From there adjust the point to your liking.
Damian SerranoAt this point we are going to take a spoon and mix very well to dissolve the rest of the sugar in the alcohol.
Damian SerranoNow we only have to add a splash of sparkling water or soda and, if desired, a touch of Angostura that will give it a bitter touch.
Damian SerranoWhen finished, if the ice has gone down a lot, add a little more, give it one last shake with the spoon and it would be ready.
Damian SerranoTo present it, we can decorate it with a slice of lime and a sprig of mint or mint. We serve and taste immediately along with two straws if desired.
